Bastien Santanoceto, born in 1992, is a Paris-based photographer. Originally from Puy-de-Dôme in the Auvergne region, he studied communication at Blaise Pascal University in Clermont-Ferrand, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree. At the same time, he developed a photographic practice influenced by cinema and experimentation.
In 2015, he took part in the Nikon Film Festival with his short film “Je suis Photographe “ (I Am a Photographer), which ranked among the 50 most supported entries. This project was accompanied by his first photographic series, composed of portraits of photographers, questioning the figure of the author and the profession of photography. This multimedia exhibition made him the youngest photographer to exhibit at the Temps d’Images Festival organized by the association Sténopé.
In 2016, Bastien Santanoceto worked for over two years at Studio Pin-Up in Paris, before assisting numerous renowned photographers such as Nathaniel Goldberg, Solve Sundsbo, and Viviane Sassen. In 2020, he completed advanced retouching training at Gobelins School and joined the Hans Lucas collective.
His first book, “Landslag”, published in 2021 and presented at the Rencontres d’Arles, became the best-seller of the publishing house RNVP. Printed in monochrome black and silver risograph, this collection of Icelandic landscapes offers photography reduced to its simplest materiality—stripped down and raw, like a negative.
Since 2022, Bastien Santanoceto has devoted most of his time to more experimental and sculptural projects, with a continuous focus on exploring photographic materials and supports.
